Abstract

The purpose of this research is to investigate the emotional impact of emergency & urgency's situations, in contexts like out-of-hospital and emergency room, on nurses and nurses' students during the internship. Consideration is given to the role of the emergency nurse called upon to give a timely, effective and efficient response. In the first chapter is presented what emergency and urgency are and how they are managed in an emergency room and in an out-of-hospital context. The second chapter deals with disorders which can develop health workers because of the many possible stressor factors, specifically: work-related stress, burnout, post-traumatic stress disorder. A paragraph was also devoted to the incidence of work-related stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the third chapter is reported a qualitative study, conducted on a sample of convenience, composed of a semi structured interview given at nine students who have done the internship in a critical area. The survey explores the emotional’s degree of involvement of the sample and the student’s perception of their level of training to handle an emergency or urgency’s sistuation. In the end, in the last chapter, is investigated the role of the internship tutor who, through an interview, prefixes the student’s formative goals and how to reach them; the are described the adaptation strategies (coping) to be implemented. A bibliographical search has been conducted by consulting textbooks, manuals, grey literature and scientific articles on databases such us Google Scholar, Cochrane and PubMed with the following keywords: nurse, emergency, ambulance, stress, burnout, tutor, coping, students, covid, emotions.
