Abstract

This thesis has as its ultimate goal and purpose to make the reader aware of the topic of conflict that can arise between family and patient in home palliative care in terms of shared decision-making. Given the frequency of this dynamic in the aforementioned setting of social work, which is not that uncommon, it was necessary to discuss and deepen such topic in order to make the reader aware of the importance of the figure of the nurse in the management and resolution of conflict, highlighting the extent of skill possession that, as well as practical and technical, should also be relational, communicative and empathic. The first chapter aims to refine understanding regarding home palliative care, but also the relevance of the role of the family caregiver, as well as the role of the nurse in this specific context of care. The second chapter discusses the communicative and interpersonal skills that are fundamental in the application of the nursing profession for the purpose of holistic care of the patient, and explores the dynamics of conflict with some possible styles of resolution. The third chapter presents a clinical case of conflict management actually experienced during an internship practice about integrated home care and some possible diagnoses, indicators and interventions identified. Finally, the fourth chapter contains the conclusions and some other considerations about the topic of this thesis. For the literature search, CINAHL, PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar databases were consulted and some websites were used too.
