Abstract

The use and abuse of drugs are phenomena of a very far-reaching nature and are still growing to this day. These phenomena can cause both slight and high degree physical and psychological damage to people, up to lead to serious intoxication if not to real chronic dependence. As a consequence, patients experience great difficulties in their daily life, in family and social relationships and in coping with stressful life events. In addition to physical damage, psychiatric problems also often arise and for this reason it is advisable to treat these pathologies in Double Diagnosis Operative Units, for example Villa Igea in the province of Modena. In these structures, personalized therapeutic protocols are created according to the problems, needs and priorities of each type of patient. The aim of this paper was to explore the topic of cocaine detoxification of a real clinical case of a patient being treated at the Villa Igea Private Hospital in Modena through the taking charge, the nursing management of the patient and the analysis of the clinical case through the use of the NANDA-I, NOC and NIC taxonomy. In this particular case the patient had comorbid cocaine abuse with a depressive disorder. The main nursing activities and interventions were highlighted, emphasizing the importance of nursing diagnoses to obtain positive outcomes regarding the patient's therapeutic pathway, from the point of view of physical and psychological health. In carrying out the identified interventions, some were highly effective while others were only partially, since the problem of drug addiction is a chronic and complex disease and requires treatments that include a long maintenance phase, during which and thanks to which rehabilitation of the patient takes place.
