Abstract

Background: The NIDCAP method is a care methodology for premature infants and their parents, used in Neonatal Intensive Care (UNIC). The model is based on a naturalistic observation of the newborn's behavioural signals and their relative interpretation. In addition, it allows you to recognize the goals and strategies for personalized care and assistance. Aim: This project was born with the need to discern and illustrate the incredible legal positive aspects of the application of the NIDCAP method in Intensive Neonatal Therapy. Materials and methods: Bibliographic research implemented through the Databases of Pubmed, CINAHL and Google Scholar. Keywords: Prematurity, Assistance, NIDCAP, Care, Parenting. Results: Furthermore, involvement and support to parents, throughout the care path of their child, are the key to inclusive care with optimal outcomes for the newborn and the family unit. Neurocognitive development, respiratory status and growth status are the most measurable health outcomes with this type of assistance. Conclusions: The NIDCAP method demonstrates that, with specialized staff, individualized care and an inclusive approach to the family unit, has beneficial implications for the physical and mental health of both the newborn and the family.
