Abstract

Tumors of the cervico-facial area are particularly debilitating as they compromise all aspects of a person's life. Nursing care in this type of patient is complex because, after the tracheostomy has been packaged, the person is no longer able to carry out the activities of daily life and is deprived of speech capacity. To avoid worsening the patient's quality of life, it is necessary to establish an effective therapeutic relationship with the patient, in order to be able to understand his real needs. For this reason it is necessary that each patient has a personalized care approach and that the person is involved in order to participate in identifying the most appropriate communication tool. The communication tools, described in the literature, that the patient with tracheostomy could have available are many and are based on the cognitive, sensory and motor skills of the person. The thesis was achieved thanks to the consultation of validated databases such as Cinahl, Pubmed and UpToDate, from which articles in English, brochures and guidelines published on websites were examined.
