Abstract

Introduction: The thesis was born with the aim of investigating nursing interventions that can support the family of adolescent patients suffering from depression. In particular, the focus is on parenting education and the prevention of the effects of adverse childhood experiences, as modifiable risk factors. Materials and methods: With reference to databases, such as "PubMed", "PsycInfo", "Cochrane Library", "Nursing Reference Center Plus", the background research question was formulated and the literature congruent with the topic was selected. of the thesis, published starting from 2018, subsequently proceeding with a foreground search. Bibliographic sources concerning the evaluation of depression with screening methods, prevention and education interventions were analyzed. The afore mentioned bibliographic search procedure was also repeated for the websites, by turning to authoritative sources such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. Main findings: The analyzed studies reported the strong correlation between the experience of adverse experiences in childhood and the deterioration of psychophysical health over the course of life, of particular importance due to the high risk of manifesting depressive illness in adolescence. Nursing interventions of parenting education, mental health and screening have shown, as reported in the literature, beneficial effects in the prevention and management of the adolescent patient and his / her family context. Conclusions: Nurses working in the field of pediatric care and mental health are important resources as they can have a significant impact on the lives of children and adolescents in at-risk contexts. The protective factors of childhood, targeted education, directing to the right path of care are valuable tools to improve the experience of minors.
