Abstract
The thesis was conceived from the experience of a traineeship and aims to deepen the diagnostic-therapeutic route and the measures and strategies to be implemented in a patient with head-neck cancer. This cancer is a significant problem because it affects about 13.000 people every year and most of them are part of the male population. There are several databases consulted for the bibliographic research, in particolar PubMed, Cinahlee and Embase, as well as having consulted the AIOM (Associazione Italiana di Oncologia Medica) guidelines concerning head-neck cancer. The first chapter deals with defining the most important general aspects of this cancer, epidemiology, risk factors, clinical and pathological staging, the diagnostics used, toxicity assessment and follow-up. The second chapter focuses on the psychological aspect and the patient and his family’s quality of life, trying to promote their wellbeing. Finally, the third chapter shows a real case with adjoining planning assistance with real diagnosis and risk using the taxonomy NANDA-I, NOC and NIC. The conclusions show that the role of the nurse is essential in the clinical process and the continuos updating is necessary for a better holistic patient care but, above all, an evidance-based nursing.
