Abstract
The purpose of this research is to highlight how paediatric emergency turns out to be a rare event in which nurses are called upon to respond in a timely, effective, and efficient manner. From the material examined what emerge are the impact, the emotional involvement and the stress related to the situation; therefore, an empathic approach towards the patient and, even more so, towards family members is fundamental. Nurses have expressed the feeling of an inadequate preparation in the management of the acute paediatric patient; protocols and procedures undoubtedly prove to be very supportive in managing the event, but the lack of day-to-day practice undermines their performance. The project described within, aims to place the student in front of two paediatric emergency scenarios by lowering the student into a protagonist role; this allows not only to experience what has been learned during the course of study but also to develop critical thinking and reasoning, an innate sense of self-criticism, and the possibility of bringing out, in a context considered as "protected", any critical issues, doubts or perplexities.
