Abstract
Congenital heart disease is the most common congenital anomaly in newborns, and inter-atrial septal defect is among the most common. This is a malformation in which an opening is present that directly connects the child's two atrial chambers, allowing the shunt of blood between the systemic circulation and the pulmonary circulation. Large interatrial septal defects require surgical treatment to reduce the risk of long-term complications. Following a thorough literature review, the thesis highlights the nursing care of the pediatric patient undergoing cardiac surgery, preoperatively, intraoperatively and postoperatively. The main nursing interventions are explored within the framework of care planning for the child and his/her family. In fact, the pediatric patient requires holistic care, taking into account not only the physical state, but also the emotional state of the child and parents, who need appropriate therapeutic education to provide proper care for the little patient during the convalescence period at home.
