Abstract

Demand for health care services in emergency rooms is steadily increasing. The main cause, according to some authors, is related to expectations regarding "medicine," what is defined in the literature as the user's perceived need. Drummond, defines overcrowding as a "situation in which the demand for services exceeds the ability of the facility's medicai and nursing staff to provide adeguate and quality care in a reasonable timer Some of the causes of overcrowding are: long waiting times; closures of small hospitals; an aging population; an increase in the number of complex patients; the advent of new diagnostic and treatment technologies; and care needs with respect to the criticai issues represented by delayed access to care; stationing; and finally overcrowding of low-priority codes. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the correct color-coding by the triagist. He is in charge of determining the patient's priority of access to care, and thanks to the experience of the emergency rooms of the Azienc Universitaria di Modena, he implements the new intrahospital triage guidelines that canne into effect on August 1, 2019 from the State-Regions conference. This thesis aims to offer the models and improvement of nursing skills. It is emphasized within the chapters, how a strengthening of facilities, services on the ground and the increasing development of nursing skills, would go a long way toward decreasing the influx of low-priority patients into emergenc rooms in favor of patients who need immediate care.
