Abstract

Within the present paper, after a thorough review of both Italian and international literature, it was possible to evaluate and comprehend how the employment of technology in the healthcare sector has been of academic interest since the beginning of the XX century. In the last few years, "telemedicine" saw an exponential development, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, and, thanks to this, all the practices of telehealth were inserted within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), demonstrating how crucial it is to invest in new technology. It is particularly from the publication of the NRRP that the eagerness to delve into peculiar aspects interesting the healthcare sector is born; thus, the paper continues through a study and review of Mission 6 (Health Mission / "Missione Salute") of the Plan, devoting attention to the importance and value that are given to the nursing profession and to the role of nurses with new technology inside domestic and territorial services. Nurses, with the creation of new Operations Centres ("Centrali Operative"), Care and Healthcare Homes ("Case della Salute") and Community Hospitals ("Ospedali di Comunità"), are the main actors within the practices of telehealth, since they are operating in close contact with patients and their caregivers. "Telenursing" is going to be the future of the nursing profession, considering the versatility of the activities that compose the profile of the worker within the healthcare sector: prevention, cure, palliation, rehabilitation and education. It must be well underlined that such topics are in continuous evolution, understanding the plan of investments which is on the agenda, without leaving behind the never-ending rush towards bettering and improving technologies we possess and utilise.
