Abstract
In this paper, I wanted to describe and explore the topic of intra-hospital nursing triage and I was able to learn about its functions and organisation during my 3rd year placement experience. My work begins and continues with the first chapter, with a literature review that led me to describe triage from birth to the present day, accompanying the review with legislative references that are fundamental to understanding the process. Following this, I described the figure of the triage nurse who plays a fundamental role in the triage decision and who accompanies the patient through all stages. In the second chapter, I described the different triage systems in the world, while in the third chapter, I described the triage process and its steps up to the end of the process with the assignment of the priority code according to different criteria and with which the patient is directed to the most appropriate route. Finally, in the fourth chapter, I described and compared the old and the new triage system and came to the conclusion that with the addition of the new blue colour code, there is a greater screening of patients presenting in the emergency department and this leads to an improvement in both performance and waiting times. The paper concludes with a description of the short routes in the emergency-emergency department of the emergency department and with a personal thought about the new triage system and the role of emergency nurse.
