Abstract
The aim of this paper is to define the role and competences of the nurse within the Recovery Room through a review of the bibliography. Starting from the questions "what are the competences and what is the role of the nurse within the Recovery Room?", I conducted an extensive bibliographical research on the main databases, which I summarised in a table in which I included all the articles found, specifying whether they were used or not. The review conducted allowed me to argue the case, starting with the aspects that require more observation at the end of the intervention and the risks a patient may face. In addition, I analysed the structural composition of the Recovery Room, focusing on the characteristics that the Italian one must have, then it is explained what kind of professionals work and collaborate within this high-intensity place. In the fourth chapter, finally, we talk about the assistance that is carried out; in particular, we dwell on nursing assistance and the skills that the nurse must have. In the last chapter, I have included the literature review table, carefully explaining how the process that led me to create it was carried out, and then the discussion that led me to resolve the questions posed at the beginning: the importance of the skills and training of the recovery room nurse, different from those of the operating theatre, which must be acquired and developed to manage this type of patient, emerges.
