Abstract
This paper has the purpose to introduce and deepen the Internet Addiction Disorder as a little known issue which is going to be a new challenge for the National Health System. We focus on the consequences that the addiction brings to the nurses, regarding them as a population at risk and also considering their educational and prevention role. Exploring the current literature we find out that 6% of the healthcare practitioner is addicted, while another 10% is at risk of developing the internet addiction disorder, and this fact has relevant consequencies on the quality level of the assistance provided. Considering the actual proceedings of prevention and training and the territorial resources available in Italy for the treatment of people with internet addiction disorder, we suggest an informative tool in the form of brochure aimed to the healthcare professionals which could be also used to educate the patients. Knowing that more studies need to be conducted on the topic, proper nurse training is required to guarantee an adequate nursing and to allow the population to have a timely access to information and care.
