Abstract
The essay examines the effects of immigration in healthcare, with particular regard to the difficulties for healthcare providers in communicating with patients with a different cultural backgroud and possible options that they can use to provide quality assistance. There is a qualitative-quantitative analysis in the thesis about the migration flows on the Italian soil, thereafter there is a description of theoretical models about transcultural nursing. Moreover there is a chapter about education as a fundamental tool to put into practice an intercultural pedagogy geared to social fairness. From the essay we can conclude that in order to provide interculturally competent care workers must put the focus on the patient, they must listen to him and they need to learn about his values and needs (which change depending on culture and unique experiences): we can achieve this by teaching and training.
