Abstract

Bronchiolitis is an acute inflammatory disease affecting the bronchioles on an infectious and seasonal basis. It can affect subjects of any age, however it mainly affects children under the age of 2 years, with a peak incidence in infants between 3 and 6 months. Acute bronchiolitis is the number one cause of lower respiratory tract infection in the first year of life, as well as the number one cause of hospitalization in the same age group. Despite being a disease known for some time and of considerable epidemiological importance, its management is still far from being unambiguous, and the various authors do not agree in identifying the optimal treatment for patients. Outside of supportive therapy, aimed at relieving symptoms and maintaining oxygenation and hydration, there are few therapeutic strategies with proven efficacy. In addition to traditional oxygen delivery devices, high-flow oxygen therapy using high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) has recently been introduced into clinical practice. Furthermore, it has been realized that the nursing profession is based on the correct and evidence-based application of techniques and procedures, but it has been increasingly gaining a greater awareness of the importance of communication than for years has been considered a "spontaneous" process, entrusted to the skills and sensitivity of the individual nurse. In this thesis it was therefore decided to explain what bronchiolitis was and how it should be treated but we also wanted to talk about the communication between nurses, parents, patient not to be underestimated as it is very useful for the management of the disease from a clinical point of view but also interpersonal. To demonstrate this, a case report has been included which deals with both the patient's problems related to the clinical aspect, and the problems of parents related to lack of knowledge and the stress caused by the moment.
