Abstract

The pandemic crisis in its most acute stages has put a strain on the resilience of health systems around the world and the people who work there, including nurses. The key challenges faced by nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic include the prevention of staff shortages and the provision of psychological and social support to nurses. It is important to promote a supportive work environment to reduce the impact of workload and work-family interference for nurses, especially during pandemics. Further studies are needed to understand and explore the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on nurses and their education. The ultimate goal is to maintain and improve the quality of care during the pandemic. On the other hand, it was known before the crisis that this category of workers is at the highest risk of exhaustion. In Italy, Inail has conducted various initiatives related to the prevention of burnout syndrome for health professionals subjected to enormous stress in the period of maximum emergency, and has promoted initiatives, in collaboration with the National Council of the Order psychologists, aimed at activating psychological support services for health professionals. This initiative is the development of a national procedure that provides useful information for the activation, at the local level, of a task force of Psychologists in force at the health facilities with the aim of guaranteeing a psychological and psychosocial support and support service for health professionals. Basically, the idea that the organizational approach is the one that promises to achieve the best results in terms of prevention of wear and tear and in general of related work disadvantages is spreading at a general level, albeit with difficulties and delays.
