Abstract

Premature birth and subsequent hospitalization in NICU significantly affect the psychological balance of the parents and the development of a safe attachment to the newborn. This traumatic reality and the sense of inadequacy induces the family to develop inadequate coping mechanisms, to deal with a large amount of emotions and various unknowns, leading to great repercussions on the lives of new parents and the child. The aim of the paper is to highlight the important role of nursing in the care of the newborn preterm, in relation to the partnership with parents who need guidance and practical support in interaction with their child, encouraging and supporting in particular the father figure, as involved from the very first stages of life of the child but then often placed in the background. Thus, during the stay of the child, it is of considerable help, directing parents towards individualized care based on care, which guarantees a better development for the newborn and puts the family at the center of his care, also promoting the consolidation of their bond. In conclusion, the elaboration of an assistance plan on a specific clinical case of a preterm newborn hospitalized in TIN, whose predominant figure for Care is the father.
