Abstract

Background. Neonatal care is an art that has always existed, which has undergone important transformations throughout history. Today, neonatal care is based on specific skills and emergency techniques implemented by a team of healthcare professionals to stabilize the critical newborn, within a dedicated environment, appointed in Italy: the neonatal island. In the team of healthcare professionals, the active participation of the nursing figure stands out. The purpose and objective of the Thesis is to illustrate the procedures adopted by the team specialized in Neonatal Resuscitation with particular regard to the activities carried out by the nurse in neonatal care. Method: a bibliographic search and an analysis of the procedures used in Neonatal Resuscitation were carried out, according to official guidelines adopted commonly by Italian operating units. Results: the work highlights how the presence of an effective training plan, the implementation of specific procedures well coded and the close collaboration of all the professionals of the team, allow the nurse dedicated to the management of the neonatal emergency, to ensure the maximum effectiveness in the implementation of life-saving procedures. Thus reducing the cases of neonatal deaths or consequences on his health with possible damage Permanent. Conclusions: The analysis of the official guidelines and procedures employed by the various operating units has made it possible to codify a complete portrait on taking charge of the newborn who needs specific resuscitation assistance, according to the various phases of the recent algorithm issued in the 2020 guidelines for CPR and ECC provided by the American Heart Association. Specific importance is given to the professional role of the nurse who provides care within the neonatal island in close collaboration with the dedicated team.
