Abstract

The Italian territorial-emergency is the basis of out-of-hospital medical aid; it is managed by the operations centre, the call-base and the heart of the organization and management of relief efforts. Two figures prevail in the territorial emergency: the nurse and the volunteer-rescuers, which need proper training in order to be capable of exercising their profession. The nurse apart from their bachelor’s also needs a Masters in critical-area-nursing. The volunteer in order to work with the emergency centre will receive proper training, depending on which organization they work for. The two most relevant organizations in Italy and in Emilia-Romagna are: The Red Cross and Anpas whose training will be analysed. The purpose of the thesis is to examine the collaboration between the two aforementioned figures and to this end, a real-life case of collaboration between those figures, during an emergency birth on board a Red Cross’ BLS vehicle will be depicted. In the conclusions, apart from highlighting the importance of the nurse for this service, it also will be emphasized how important it is for nurses to enhance the figure of the volunteer and encourage them to carry-out more specific courses in order to make them more autonomous and helpful.
