In the light of all this, pain is considered the fifth vital parameter and must be evaluated and documented at regular intervals and, consequently, it is necessary to evaluate it through a considered nursing care process. The aim of the study is to analyse how many and what knowledge, at this time, the nurses of the Modena Oncology Center have in relation to complementary therapies in the treatment of cancer pain. The research was carried out in the departments of Oncology, Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Units, by submitting an ad hoc questionnaire to 29 nurses. The study found that, in the reality of the Modena Oncology Center, complementary therapies in pain treatment are not well integrated into nursing practice, because of gaps in the knowledge of these by the nurses. This study highlights the need to promote training/refresher courses for nurses to increase their knowledge and increase the use of complementary therapies in the treatment of pain, improving the well-being of patients.
