Abstract

Acute alcoholic intoxication (AAI) is the clinical consequence, which follows an episode of strong alcohol abuse, determined by all its typical neuropsychomotor manifestations. This is a not uncommon condition that, according to a ISTAT research, requires medical-nursing care still for a large number of people out of the total cases in a year. This dissertation focuses mainly on the nursing management of this specific category of patients, that may present more or less different and more or less serious conditions, after a careful evaluation of the data obtained with the clinical history and a quick objective examination directly from the nursing triage. The characteristics of nursing interventions are defined in this text after and during the analysis of a broad background able to determine the type of care intended for the intoxicated patient, which includes the analysis of the intoxicating substance and its pharmacokinetics, the study of what may be the motivations that induce a person to use alcohol and the manifestations of acute alcohol intoxication together with the relative diagnostictherapeutic activity and the possible complications if repeated several times in the long term. A review of the literature available through the consultation of databases such as Pubmed, Uptodate, Cochrane Library and CINAHL has been carried out to carry out the topic through the use of keywords such as "intoxication", "alcohol", "nursing management", "treatment" and "diagnostic activities". In addition, a nursing plan has also been developed using the standardised NANDA-I, NOC and NIC taxonomies
