Abstract
Flatfoot disease is very common among the pediatric population. This disease is characterized by a flat plantar vault and a valgus heel. In early childhood this condition is completely physiological, and it tends to resolve spontaneously with the advancing age of the child, but this does not always happen. The permanence of this condition may lead the child to complain of a painful symptomatology, thus necessitating surgery to correct the flat foot. The digital information booklet “Start with the right foot!” aims to guide the child and his family within their hospital path, from the diagnosis, to the surgery of correction of the flat foot, up to the home convalescence, so that they can be aware of the treatment of the disease at ease in the clinical setting. The thesis elaboration initially illustrates the physiological anatomy of the foot and the pathological one, examining the instrumental methods, criteria and examinations necessary for the formulation of the diagnosis of flat foot. The following chapters examine possible surgical and non-surgical treatments of the disease, with a specific focus on surgical treatments. Following the description of the information booklet, attention is given to the management of pain in the child during the post-operative phase.
