Abstract
In recent years, the incidence of stroke has been increasing, so that today stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide and the third leading cause of death in industrialized countries. Stroke is one of the most disabling pathologies and for this reason the role of nurses is fundamental, especially in the acute phase of the disease. Nurses are responsible for general nursing care and, in dealing with stroke patients, are responsible for taking care of them. Evaluation scales are crucial in the assessment process to deliver efficient assistance and to make sure that the patient, and not only his pathology is the starting point in the planning of interventions. The rating scales allow to evaluate the prognosis, measure outcomes and convey a common language among health professionals. A cerebral stroke, regardless of its etiology, can affect users of all ages and both sexes. It is often related to a person's previous lifestyle and can give rise to severe neurological deficits. Those who were affected by it and survived, from that moment on, begin a different phase of their life: a long rehabilitation, chronic therapy and constant psychological damage. The assistance of the nurse is often indispensable for the management of post-stroke subjects. This thesis analyzes the management and treatment of subject who are affected by stroke, focusing on the most suitable tools for assessing patients needs and for consequently providing the best possible assistance.
