Abstract

The interventional or operational ultrasound execution, is about to become a real nursing technical competence; whereas also that there are no legal reules or laws, prohibiting or restricting the use by the nursing staff. Nevertheless, there is still a big deal of uncertainty about the real implication and the actual uses margins of this important resource. The document, asks whether this method can be entrusted with safety and reliability to the nurse, to improve the frame and management of a patient in emergency/ urgency. The idea to deal with this topic was born during my internship at the Emergency room of the AOU in Modena, where I could appreciate this method potential , usable in a wide range of situations and clinical conditions types. For example, the FAST has entered fully into the integrated clinical-instrumental primary evaluation in the unstable patient (primary survey) or secondary in the stable patient (secondary survey). In addition, applied to triage is proposed as a valid tool to help in choosing the color code. To confirm its great power of application, ultrasound can verify the correct positioning of the SNG or CV, it can quantify the urine present in the bladder, and finally can be of help in the insertion of central or peripheral vascular devices in patients with poor venous heritage. A literature rewiew was carried out through the following databases: Cochrane Library, Pubmed, CINAHL and textbooks, reaching the conclusion that the ultrasound use in urgency-emergency both in the pre and intra-hospital phases is proposed as an insurmountable condition to realize a management modern project of the acute patient having so far given guarantees in terms of feasibility, safety and final satisfaction of both patients and nursing staff.
