Abstract
Background: The nurse, having a basic knowledge of research, contributes to the updating of healthcare; also, the recent Covid-19 pandemic has made it necessary to develop new remote assistance strategies. In this context, a device capable of coupling smartphones and phonendoscopes has been devised, allowing to record auscultatory body sounds. This study has the aim to test the effectiveness of the instrument, verify the possibility of making diagnoses, investigate the percentage of errors for the identification of traces, and propose solutions to possible problems encountered. Methodology: The study was elaborated in two phases: the collection of audio tracks and the elaboration of a questionnaire to investigate the responses of the sample. Results: It emerged that the 84% of the participants believe that the instrument has sufficient validity and 56% that this device could be a suitable aid for making diagnosis, especially for lung and heart sounds, less for abdominal ones. There was a higher percentage of correct responses for identifying the origin of sounds than identifying their nature. Technical modifications to the device are required for its refinement. Conclusions: The participation in the study has contributed to a deepening of the figure of the nurse in the research.
