Abstract

Premature birth is considered traumatic for both the newborn and the parents. Neonatal Intensive Care therefore aims to recreate an environment that guarantees well-being to both parties, for example through Kangaroo Mother Care or KMC. This method is based on intimate skin-to-skin contact between the child and his parents, with the aim of promoting greater adaptation to change for the newborn, and to develop caring skills and greater safety for the parents. The nurse plays a key role in the implementation of the KMC however there are many aspects, such as emotionality, that can influence whether or not to promote the method. Therefore, the thesis will assess the compliance of nurses and all aspects that may negatively influence the realization of the KMC. In order to achieve this objective, a protocol has been proposed to the Modena Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which will form the basis of a qualitative research study, which will provide a clear picture of nurses' views on the KMC, with a view to achieving uniform treatment for all hospitalized patients.
