Abstract
The topic covered in this graduation thesis is related to the management of the newborn born to a CoVID-19 positive mother and the possible vertical transmission of the SARS-Cov-2 virus. This thesis was developed with the aim of providing clarifying information relating to motherhood in the current pandemic era and its implications for newborns. A literature review was carried out based on a bibliographic search carried out in major databases such as PubMed and Cinahil, and taking into consideration the guidelines issued by some health protection organizations. In the first chapter of this thesis there is a theoretical summary relating to the pandemic background, coronaviruses and vertical transmission. In the second chapter I focus on the vertical transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus by analyzing the discordant results obtained from the bibliographic research. The third chapter deals specifically with the birth path of the newborn born to a CoVID-19 positive mother and the related implications in its management. This review demonstrates that there is still little known information on the vertical transmission of this virus, and therefore the management of the newborn born from an infected mother is based on the sole risk/benefit assessment of the procedures to be performed.
