Abstract

Background: The recent Covid-19 pandemic has made it necessary to develop new remote assistance strategies. In this context, a device capable of coupling smartphones and phonendoscopes has been devised, allowing to record auscultatory findings of body sounds. This study aims to test the tool's effectiveness, verify the possibility of making diagnoses, investigate the percentage of errors for the identification of the traces and propose solutions to possible problems encountered. Methodology: The study was developed in two phases: the collection of traces of thoracic and abdominal auscultatory sounds was followed by the elaboration of a questionnaire to investigate the validity and comprehensibility of such traces. Results: It emerges that 84% of the participants believe that the instrument has sufficient validity and 56% that this device could be a valid diagnostic aid, especially for lung and heart sounds, less so for abdominal ones. There was a higher percentage of correct answers for identifying the origin of sounds than identifying their nature. Conclusion: Telemonitoring offers the ability to closely monitor patients' daily status, provide personalized care and produce positive results.
