Abstract

On March 11, 2020, the WHO (World Health Organization) declared the state of Pandemic due to the spread of a new virus called Sars Cov-2 which led to the occurrence of the disease known as Covid-19. Patients with advanced chronic renal failure (who need replacement treatment with dialysis) are significantly more at risk of infection for the simple reason that, in the midst of the pandemic and a lockdown, they were forced to leave their homes in order to access a hospital facility to carry out the dialysis session, which for the patient is life-saving therapy and can not be postponed. This thesis will address the various protocols and new procedures sanctioned by SIAN (Nephrological Area Nursing Society) and SIN (Italian Society of Nephrology, in the section of Emilia-Romagna) and implemented in the Dialysis Department of the Hospital of Carpi. Topics aimed at preventing infection within the department and now common in our daily lives will be discussed, such as hand washing, social distancing, antigenic tampons and triage. You will consider how to act in the event of a suspect patient. The management of Covid-19 positive patients in need of dialysis treatment and the respective room dedicated to them will be presented. This will be followed by the nurses of the ward about their experience, from the first months to the present day, focusing on the emotions and difficulties that this situation has produced. Finally, it will end with a comparison between two clinical cases of Covid-19 positive patients assisted in Carpi Dialysis.
