Abstract
Cancer of the larynx is one of the most common cancers in the field of otolaryngology. Nursing care for a laryngectomy patient is very complex as you are faced with a cancer patient who has undergone a mutilating surgery. After total laryngectomy, the patient is deprived of the function to speak, to feed initially orally, and to breathe from the upper airways. This gives rise to a sort of denial in the patient towards his own body, which leads to a worsening of the quality of life and social isolation. The thesis was created thanks to the consultation of validated databases such as Pubmed, Google Scholar and Cinahl, from which articles in English, textbooks, brochures and guidelines published on the websites of the various associations present on the national territory such as AILar and AIOM, were analyzed. Through the analysis of a case report of a patient with total laryngectomy, planned through the NANDA-I, NOC and NIC nursing taxonomies, the complex nursing management of a laryngectome patient can be seen. The nurse of the Otolaryngology Unit must possess clinical, practical and relational skills that include: clinical evaluation, respiratory support, therapeutic education, management of various devices, stoma care and psychological support both for the patient and the caregiver.
