Abstract
The Burnout Syndrome is a state of emotional, physical and mental exhaustion caused by work- related stress that is hardly manageable. Being too "overloaded" can lead to a loss of concentration and productivity, and consequently to an increased perception of the risk of clinical error. The goal is to investigate the existence of an association between the risk of developing Burnout among nurses and the perception of making mistakes. This is a quantitative study based on the analysis of a questionnaire from the Maslach Burnout Inventory and two more questions on the perception of clinical error submitted to the nurses of the departments of Reanimation, Cardiology, Surgery, and Oncology of Policlinico di Modena during the Covid-19 pandemic. The evidence is that Rianimation nurses are more at risk of burnout and have a greater perception of making errors (Rianimation 41%, Surgery 5%, and others around 20%). The results of the research are in line with the data of the international literature: Burnout syndromy and the fear of making mistakes are a very important issue for nurses.
