Abstract

Following the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone's life has been turned upside down. Health workers were the ones who had to primarily deal with this new reality to face the emergency.
Nurses in particular played a key role in trying to restore the well-being of the population, demonstrating resilience in dealing with a situation for which no one was prepared. While everyone took refuge in their homes, nurses continued to work unaware of what they were struggling with.
The aim of this thesis is to search for any changes that have occurred within the 118 Territorial Emergency Service due to the current pandemic and the possible associated consequences.
These changes have been sought both on the organizational level and on the psychophysical well-being of each health worker, in particular of nurses. For this reason, some studies relating to the mental well-being of Italian nurses carried out in the early months of 2020 were compared.
The results reported below scientifically demonstrates the impact of COVID-19 on the mental burden of Italian health workers and suggest how the operators themselves should be carefully monitored, although the changes in the way they operate have been limited. In fact, emotional distress can not only lead to long-term effects on the well-being of health workers, but is often associated with suboptimal patient care and professional inefficiencies.
