Abstract

The thesis analyzes the care of the nurse at the end of life under routine operating conditions compared to the situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the intensive care unit, the nurse’s possibility to assist the dying patients and his relatives in a holistic way is put in crisis. The patients last moments, the causes of death, the mourning, the relationship built between patient and nurse, the assistance and the impact that the corona virus outbreak has had in preventing the patient a possibility to secure a “good death”, are all topics addressed in with the intent to thread between them with the bigger theme that is the care of the dying patients in the COVID re’s In the knowledge that technical preparation with empathic and human capacity act for the nurse as a whole, to support and increase, a deepening in the technical-scientific literature on the subject is made. The bioethical and operational-assistance aspects at life-end are examined. From this analysis it emerges the need to be able to guarantee to the nurse, in the chaos of the emergency, every possible support, training and organization for the benefit of resilience. Maintaining it’s extraordinary to ensure and pay attention to all the needs of the dying patients and fellow relatives all considered as a single care nucleus, remains a value to be preserved in the pandemic crisis scenario.
