Abstract
Dementia is a disorder characterized by cognitive decline, which involves one or more domains and intererferes with daily life and therefore with the autonomy of the affected individual. The main cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, consisting in a neurodegenerative decline of uncertain cause. The patients’ number suffering of dementia is rising with the increased life expectancy, resulting in more families involved on taking care; these families are usually unaware of the complex care burden they are facing. The main purpose of this paper is the focus on the complexity of care burdendue to dementia, by comparing two clinical cases through NNN nursing taxonomies. In conclusion, we emphasized the importance of the nurse in his role of taking charge of the patient and of those who assist him, in order to investigate the critical aspects of the care burden.
