Abstract

Background: It has often been found that there is no common line that nurses follow for the management of patients at risk or with LDP, hence several questions on the level of knowledge present. There are numerous similar studies published on this subject, but only one Italian has been found, however, aimed at students. With these premises, it was decided to conduct a survey in a sample of 78 nurses through a questionnaire administered online. Objective: Evaluate the level of knowledge regarding the prevention and treatment of the patient with LDP. We also want to get a clearer picture about the most used updating method by the group and with which professionals they collaborate in the field of LDP. Method: Through a questionnaire, data was collected from 78 nurses with different qualifications, 74.4% are graduates, 11.5% are graduates and 14.1% are professional nurses. Results: 54% of the sample turns to their colleague to receive information on the treatment of LDP, 22% uses scientific articles, 63% has the opportunity to discuss with the toilet specialist. 17% say they assess the risk of LDP at all the appropriate times proposed. About 50% of the sample rely on Braden's value and leave out other factors. In the three cases proposed, less than 30% of the sample is wrong in the type of dressing. Conclusion: The general level of knowledge does not satisfy, it does not appear to be influenced by the academic qualification, with the exception of the specialists in Wound Care who have shown fewer errors. The most used source for information is their colleague / guidelines and protocols, only 22% use to consult scientific journals. Over half of the sample has the opportunity to compare with the Wound Care specialist in clinical practice.
