Abstract
Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women all over the world. Breasts are in many cultures symbol of femininity, beauty, attraction and sexuality and are fundamental to the well-being of women. The argument presented in this thesis aims to underline the importance of the alteration of body image in women with breast cancer and to illustrate the nursing interventions to help them deal with these problems. The cancer and its treatment are able to change the way women live their body image as they cause physical and psychological changes, for this reason it is important to support the woman during this period. Nurses can help them through the evaluation, planning and implementation of personalized nursing interventions aimed to provide holistic and personalized care. For the elaboration of this thesis, scientific papers and articles have been researched in databases such as Pubmed, CINHAL, Nursing Reference Center Plus, Uptodate, using the following keywords: breast cancer, body image, nursing, nursing intervention, Nurse case manager, mastectomy, sexuality. In addition, have been consulted sites such as: Associazione Italiana malati di cancro (Aimac), Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria di Modena (AOU), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, Fondazione Umberto Veronesi, World Healt Organization Cancer Today.
