Abstract

No word can properly grasp the meaningful value of getting close to someone: that chance to grow given by the experience of connection, which is lived as a privilege by a nurse, represents the attempt to enrich the comprehension of others' details with the true meanings behind their expressions. The effort to read their history is undertaken due to the desire to access their unknown universe, but the concern coming from this commitment, inevitably emerges through the evidence that every free interpretation is always subdued by an ethnocentric view, responsible of misunderstandings, which causes the obvious need to therefore consider a more appropriate validation process, if the ultimate goal is to build a nursing assistance to pain whose perception is culturally oriented. When holistically exploring someone's identity is easy to realise how tightly connected are human dimensions as well as to discover that is in their intersection with culture that the meaning of their pain comes from. Since translating someone's pain experience is as insufficient as disrespectful towards the uniqueness it brings within, and nurses can't rely on linguistically and semantically valid tools to assess the culture's influence on their pain, it's cultural humility the best suggested resource to refer to in Transcultural Nursing. It's essential to make pain management be rooted in cultural awareness as well as to address its process to other transcultural competences, so as that through a compelling communication it becomes possible for a nurse to grasp his patient's story saving their therapeutic relationship from any misleading and unethical inference. This paper aims to prove how relevant is to nurture nurse's sensitivity towards someone's pain pondering on culture's interference with any aspect of that perception.
