Abstract
This thesis moves on from a personal interest in immunotherapy, a treatment that doesn’t provide yet anhealth personnel systematic updating, regarding both its action mechanism and its side effects. The aim of this work is to underline the importance of updating nursing staff about this subject, in order to be able to early detect adverse events and to treat them correctly. The thesis will discuss about different topics such as the mechanism of action of immunotherapy, the prevention of adverse events, the importance of therapeutic patient education, main types of short and long-term adverse events and, lastly, identification of the most appropriate treatment for each adverse event. The chosen work method involves searching of scientific articles related to the topic and consulting appropriate guidelines. In addition, two clinical cases have been included in this thesis, one about short-termimmunotoxicity and one about long-term toxicity, to emphasize the importance of quickly acknowledgment of these adverse events and knowledge of correct treatment. From this paper emerges the importance of nursing updating on immunotherapy and, above all, on the nature of short and long-term adverse events which can arise during and after therapy, in order to quickly recognize and correctly treat them.
