Abstract

In this thesis, divided into five chapters, it was decided to deepen the nursing role in the care of the paediatric patient taking into consideration the different developmental groups and the importance of a personalized approach. The method adopted for the realization of the thesis includes a bibliographic research based on scientific literature, through material found on validated databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, search engines such as Google Scholar and textbooks. The following keywords were used for the research: cognitive development, paediatrics, paediatric nursing, paediatric hospitalization, communication, listening, helping relationship. In the first chapter I wanted to deepen what concerns the different developmental groups, the needs, and emotions in children. The second chapter explains how hospitalization negatively affects the daily lives of children and parents and how important the presence of the latter is during the therapeutic process. Later, in the third chapter, the nursing role in childcare, the specialist training path and the therapeutic education interventions are deepened, and it' s mentioned the ideal behaviour to held in a context of ethnic and cultural differences. The fourth chapter aims to highlight the importance of communication in nursing practices and how it must be adequately modulated according to the age of the patients. At the end, the fifth chapter deals with the importance of humanizing care, the relationship of help and listening in paediatric wards and how the latter have been modified over time to meet children's needs.
