Abstract

The Pre-Triage nurse during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic assumes an important role thanks to the early recognition of symptoms related to the virus and the division of patients. Thanks to this figure, in the Emergency Department of the Hospital of Baggiovara, people representing suspect cases or positive people are directed to an area dedicated to them, where the nurse proceeds, in total safety, to take charge at 360°. The history of the spread of the COVID-19 virus precedes the clinical and epidemiological illustration of the main symptoms characterizing the disease, the routes of transmission and the latest experimental studies on medical therapies. Nursing care dedicated to potentially infected patients is then dealt with, this is implemented holistically by including clinical, instrumental and laboratory investigations that contribute to achieving the diagnosis. An excursus on personal protective equipment illustrates the necessary clothing and the dressing and undressing techniques for nurses before coming into contact with patients at risk. This work focuses on the reorganization made within the Emergency Department for the reception of patients thanks to the setting up of a Pre-Triage point in which the essential parameters such as temperature and saturation are measured, and where the patient is asked to fill in the questionnaire on the risk of infection. The work concludes with a description of the job changes undergone by nurses such as adaptation techniques and the psychological consequences suffered due to the health emergency. Keywords: COVID-19, Pre-Triage, Clinical signs and symptoms, PPE, ED transformation.
