Abstract

The dissertation aims to affirm first of all the importance of communication in the relationship with the preschool paediatric patient and his family, whitin the hospital context, by analyzing the information in support of this thesis, found on different online platforms such as Oneclick, EBSCOHost and Google Scholar, as well as within the Nursing Professions’ Ethical Code. Elements of the communication process are then exposed, with a note of attention to the non-verbal communication. The paper continues with a theoretical overview of the child’s development from birth to preschool age. In addition to this, the text highlights some models and some useful approaches and communication techniques in pediatric nursing practice. Finally, a clinical case is presented with an assistance plan according to taxonomy NANDA-I, NOC and NIC. The set of information in the paper allows to claim that currently these models, such as LEARN or KIDSCARE, are not provided in the taxonomy. But, simultaneously it has been shown that they can really make a difference in the relationship with the paediatric patient and his family. This allows to raise awareness between health professionals of the knowledge and use of these models in order to improve and make more appropriate and effective the helping relationship, useful for communication to be established with the child and his family.
