Abstract
The aim of this essay is to analyze and describe the care paths taken by a person who intends to undergo a liver transplant, the legislative references that regulate the procedure, deepening the role of the nurse in the management and education of the patient and prevention of complications. The incidence of complications is high in the post-operative period, especially due to infections and rejection; non-adherence to treatments is also of considerable importance regarding lifestyle changes and immunosuppressive therapy. For these reasons, the role of the nurse is fundamental in the pretransplant phase to inform and educate about the procedure, during care practices ensuring the use of standard measures and asepsis, and finally in the post-transplant and follow-up education reducing the incidence of longterm complication and re-hospitalization. In the end are reported new indications and updates in reference to the period of the Coronavirus pandemic. Finally, an educational brochure is proposed to validate the importance of information and awareness of organ donation.
