Abstract
The paper deals with the importance of the nursing figure and how said person helps the patient and related family through the management of the pain therapy at-home. The painful human experience brings along with itself a totally subjective and more mentally related aspect, this is unique and unrepeatable and has to be faced in a peculiar way for each and every patient, and a physically related aspect as well that is to be dealt with medicine-based methodologies. Complete care of the patient calls for an empathetic and inclusive approach, and a competent and scientific attitude. In the paper cancer pain and the various aspects that are involved are established, with a description of how to evaluate the pain, which tools can be used and, briefly, what kind of drug therapy the treatment calls for. The paper describes home care, with particular regard to the palliative treatments branch, concerning cancer patients, as well as the peculiarities of at-home subcutaneous administrations. The paper concludes with a discussion about therapeutic education and the trasmissione of knowledge, where the role of the nurse and of the family or caregiver are highlighted.
