Abstract

The territorial emergency nurse and the rescuer are the two most present professional figures in the emergency system, each of which has a specific training path. In order to serve as a territorial emergency nurse some minimal requirements need to be met: to possess a professionally enabling degree, to have service experience and a specific high level of training. The rescuer (volunteer or not) must attend a specific qualification-enabling course. Each region decides how to organize and carry out its training, complying with the
State-Regions Agreement of 22 May 2003 concerning the training of personnel working in the emergency system, including attributing this task to third parties. In Emilia-Romagna, the rescuer is mainly trained by Italian Red Cross and “Associazione Nazionale delle Pubbliche Assistenze”. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the collaboration and synergy between the nurse and the rescuer from their training, with a deeper focus on the latter. To support this aspect, standardized assistance will be analyzed with the help of a simulated case in which a person, suffering from cardiac arrest, will first be assisted by an ambulance with rescuers only, due to unavailability of a rescue vehicle with a sanitary worker on board at the time of event, and as soon as available, by another vehicle with a nurse on board. In conclusion, proposals will be put forward for clinical practice, one of which is to unify the training of the rescuer within Emilia-Romagna by entrusting the organizations, implementing and validating the courses to the nurse, as a pivotal figure of the territorial emergency service.
