Abstract
The thesis addresses the topic of eating disorders (DCA) which are a series of pathologies that started to appear a lot of centuries ago, but that nowadays still represent a main problem in our societies. In the next four chapters we will be analysing how the body conception and the importance of physical appareance have changed troughout the years and how, nowadays, mass media play a fundamental role in influencing young people and teenagers on these topics. Another topic we will be exploring is how mass media have become the main representative of cultural pressure about thinness because of advertisements, web pages and fashion magazines. One chapter of the thesis is dedicated to diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation treatment and to the description of how important it is to have an integrated multidisciplinary approach in order to achieve the best health results. In the last chapter of the thesis we bring a concrete example concerning a patient suffering from Anorexia, the related care planning and the main nursing diagnosis. The bibliographical research was carried out by consulting on several guidelines such as American Psychiatric Association and National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence. Moreover books, articles and web pages have been read and analysed for additional content. As far as databases are concerned, the main resources were PubMed and CINAHL.
