Abstract
The pain, in the oncological patient, is one of the most recurring and significant symptoms during the progress of the disease and particularly in the final phase, when it is defined as total pain.
The aim of this thesis is to underline the importance of the nurse in the team of the palliative care to ease the pain and improve the life quality of the oncological terminal patient.
It starts by describing the evolution of the palliative care in Italy , the importance of the care team and of the organisational network, which can be a starting point useful to understand where the concept and the activities originate, which nowadays several services operating in the terminal stage of the disease seem to be grounded on.
After that through the analysis of the features of the terminal stage of the disease, it examines the clinical management of the needs and symptoms expressed by the terminally-ill patient, which are the primary outcome of the palliative treatments.
