Abstract

The caregiver represents a figure of fundamental importance in the management and care of the chronic-degenerative and/or terminally ill patient, for whom palliative care has been activated. In addition to taking care of the patient, the nurse must plan personalized assistance to the needs of the caregiver, focusing on the bio-psycho-socio-spiritual aspects of the person. The aim of this thesis is to bring to the attention, through the reading and analysis of the literature, of the presence of a nursing tool, "a family caregiver decision guide", developed by Dr. Carole Robinson with the purpose of analyzing the needs of family caregivers, in order to
accompany them on a path of awareness to make decisions on the best way to treat their sick family member, considering their own resources and gaps. Numerous studies have shown that some of the main problems that caregivers have are the lack of information regarding their role, due to a low knowledge of the menagement of their sick family member and the lack ofsupport by health workers, causing in many cases situations of strong stress. It is illustrated, to respond to these needs, the importance of helping relationship based on comunication and therapeutic education which is accompanied by further support represented by the guide under study of which the translation is made into Italian, in order to hightlight which are the areas that must be investigated for a good care of the caregiver. The work was concluded by hightlighting some of the most common nursing diagnoses related to the role of the caregiver, correlated by the related outcomes and interventions that can be realized to obtain the desired results.
