Abstract
The thesis deals with the nursing care of the enterostomized patient. The topic stems from the internship experience at the AISTOM outpatient clinic at the Policlinico di Modena where I noticed that stoma patients are often misunderstood and left alone both by healthcare personnel, who is not always adequately trained, but also by lay people. The paper begins with the description of the digestive system, which is followed by the classification of ostomies and the various pathologies that lead to the need to create an ostomy. I then describe the surgical process and possible complications. A chapter deals with the main nursing diagnoses with NANDA, NOC and NIC taxonomy. Finally, I deal with the phase of rehabilitation and adaptation to the new condition, especially highlighting the importance of physical activity as it brings benefits both from a psychological and physical point of view, decreasing the risk of complications, highlighting the importance of the nursing role in this path.
