Abstract
Introduction: The thesis describes the implantable cardiac defibrillator, its components, functions, possible complications and the psychological impact of the implant on the patient. Finally, I have described in more detail the role of the nurse within this care process, and I have illustrated which care interventions are carried out in all perioperative phases, as well as the educational activities that are proposed to the patient.
Materials and methods: Several databases made available by the university were consulted, such as UptoDate, Cinhal, Nursing Reference Center, Google Scholar, using the Google search engine. For the search I used these keywords: implantable cardioverter defibrillator, psychological impact, perioperative, follow-up, nurse's role, nursing care.
Results: From the literature emerge several interventions that are of nursing competence and that have a considerable importance in the convalescence of the patient, but above all it emerges how fundamental it is that the nurse educates him on various aspects of daily life, so that he is able to recover in the best way his autonomy.
Conclusions: It is therefore concluded that the role of the nurse is essential within the care process.
